Ingredients
Active Ingredients: Domperidone
Non-Active Ingredients: Lactose, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinised potato starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, hydrogenated vegetable oil, sodium lauryl sulfate, hypromellose and purified water.
 
Indications
Motilium is indicated in the treatment of gastrointestinal motility disorders and related symptoms such as feeling too full,” bloating, loss of appetite,nausea and vomiting. Domperidone is also used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by other drugs used to treat Parkinson's Disease. 

How It Works
Motilium is an antiemetic and a prokinetic medicine. It works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger in the brain which causes the feeling of nausea and vomiting, as well as increasing the movement and contractions of the stomach encouraging food to move through the stomach easier.

Dosage
Tablets (5 mg or 10 mg)

For treatment of gastrointestinal disorders take 1 (10 mg) tablet three to four times daily. Some patients may require higher doses up to 2 tablets (20 mg) three or four times daily.

For treatment of nausea and vomiting: 2 pills (20 mg) three to four times daily.

You should not take more then a total of 8 tablets per day.

Precautions
Consult a doctor before taking Motilium if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The effects of Motilium on an unborn baby or nursing infant are unknown and as such you should consult a doctor before taking Motilium. Your doctor can weigh the risks of taking this medicine against the benefits it brings to determine if it is right for you.

You should not take Motilium if you are allergic to Domperidone, or any of the other ingredients contained in it. If you do experience an allergic reaction consult a medical professional immediately. Symptoms of allergic reaction includes, rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Make sure to tell your doctor your entire medical history and about any other medical problems you may have before taking Motilium. The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of Domperidone especially: bleeding from the stomach or other problems involving the bowels, pituitary (brain) tumor, liver disease, or a hyper-sensitivity to Domperidone.

When taking Domperidone you should see your doctor regularly to check your progress. This will allow your doctor to see if the medicine is working properly and to decide if you should continue to take it. If your symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
 


Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription, over-the-counter medicine, especially: Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors: Furoxone (furazolidone), Nardil (phenelzine), Matulane (procarbazine), Eldepryl (selegilene), Parnate (tranylcypromine).

If you are taking another medicine containing the active ingredient: Ketoconazole, Fluconazole or Voriconazole which is used to treat fungal infections. you are taking an antibiotic containing the active ingredient Erythromycin, Clarithromycin or Telithromycin. you are taking another medicine containing the active ingredient amiodarone, which is used to treat fast heart rate. Your doctor will advise you whether or not to take Motillum or if you need to adjust the dose or alter your treatment.

Adverse/Side Effects
If you experience any of these very serious side effects consult a doctor immediately: Difficulty in speaking, disorientation, dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, light-headedness, loss of balance or muscle control.

Check with your doctor immediately if you experience any of these less common side effects occur: Loss of balance or muscle control, swelling of the mouth, fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse; swelling of face, hands, lower legs, or feet.

Other side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, check with your doctor if any of the following side effects persist or become overly bothersome: 
 
Common: lactation, dry mouth, swelling of the breast in men, hives, headache, itching, itching of skin redness, pain, swelling of eye, menstrual irregularities, pain in the breast.
 
Rare: change in appetite, change in need to urinate, constipation, diarrhea, burning, difficult or painful urination, speech problems, nervousness, dizziness, tiredness, irritability, sleepiness or drowsiness, fits or seizures, agitation, thirst, mental dullness, palpitations and sluggishness.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include difficulty in speaking; disorientation; dizziness; fainting; irregular heartbeat; light-headedness, loss of balance or muscle control. If you suspect overdose, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and light, and out of reach of children and pets.
