Akne-mycin, erythromycinChemical NameErythromycin Ingredients Active Ingredients: Erythromycin Non-Active Ingredients: white petrolatum, mineral oil Indications Akne-mycin (erthromycin) is used to treat acne. How It Works Akne-mycin helps to reduce the incidence of acne. It is one of a group of antibiotics called macrolide antibiotics and it stops the growth of bacteria on the skin. Dosage Cream 4% 20 gm, erythromycin To use Akne-mycin apply a thin layer of the medication to the skin and gently rub in, use twice a day or as directed by your doctor. Always wash your hands and the skin where you will be applying the medication beforehand. If there is no improvement in 6-8 weeks or if condition gets worse discontinue use and see your doctor again. Precautions Akne-mycin is contraindicated in people who have an allergy to Erythromycin, any of its other ingredients, penicillin or any other antibiotics. Be sure to tell your doctor your medical history before beginning treatment with Akne-mycin. This medication is for topical use only, do not use this medication in your eyes, mouth or in any other body cavities. Do not use large amounts or apply this more often then twice a day or as your doctor recommended. Do not use for a longer period than directed. Your condition will not clear up faster, but you do raise the risk of side effects. Antibiotics can cause fungal infections, because they get rid of "good" bacteria, let your healthcare provider know if you are prone to fungal infections. Other minor side effects have also been reported; The following are less common side effects: peeling skin, erythema, dryness, itching, and oily skin.
