BENADRYL, diphenhydramineCompositionBenadryl 50 mg Capsules Diphenhydramine hydrochloride How should you take this medication? Doses may be taken every 4 to 6 hours. Do not take more than 6 doses each 24 hours. Adults and Chilldren Over 12 Years Old Tablets, Capsules, and Softgels The usual dose is 1 or 2 pills. Chewables The usual dose is 2 to 4 tablets. Chew tablets thoroughly before swallowing. Liquid The usual dosage is 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls. Children 6 To 12 Years Old For children under 6, consult your doctor. Tablets, Capsules and Softgels The usual dose is 1 pill. Chewables The usual dose is 1 or 2 tablets. Liquid The usual dose is 1 or 2 teaspoonfuls. Storage Store Benadryl (Dimedrol , Diphenhydramine) at room temperature in a dry place. Protect chewables and softgels from heat. Protect liquids from freezing. Do not take this medication: Unless your doctor approves it, avoid this product if you have high pressure within the eye (glaucoma), an enlarged prostate gland or a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis. If you must avoid phenylalanine, do not use the chewable tablets. Special warnings about this medication This product may make you drowsy. Be especially careful when operating machinery or driving. Benadryl (Dimedrol , Diphenhydramine) can also cause excitability in some people, especially in children. Possible food and drug interactions when taking this medication Do not take Benadryl Allergy (Dimedrol , Diphenhydramine) if you are using any other products containing the active ingredient diphenhydramine, including Actifed Cold & Allergy or Sinus, Tylenol PM or Severe Allergy Medication and Unisom with Pain Relief. If you are taking a tranquilizer such as Valium or Xanax, or a sleep aid such as Halcion or Seconal, do not take Benadryl (Dimedrol , Diphenhydramine) can cause extreme drowsiness. For the same reason, avoid alcohol while taking this product. |
