Ingredients
Active Ingredients: Desloratadine
 
Non-Active Ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate USP, microcrystalline cellulose NF, corn starch N F,  talcUSP, carnauba wax N F, white wax NF, coating material consisting of lactose monohydrate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, and FD&C Blue #2  Aluminum Lake.
 
Indications
Calrinex is indicated in the treatment of seasonal allergies (hay fever), If can be give to patients as young as 6 months or older and to patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria 6 months of age and older.
 
How It Works
Desloratadine is a long-acting tricyclic histamine antagonist with selective H1-receptor histamine antagonist activity. It interacts with the human histamine H1-receptor. Desloratadine inhibited histamine release from human mast cells in vitro.
 
Dosage
Tablets (5 mg)
Adults and children 12 years of age and over: The recommended dose of Clarinex tablets or Clarinex RediTabs tablets is one 5 mg tablet once daily.
6 to 11 years: The recommended dose of Clarinex tablets is one 2.5 mg tablet once daily.
For children younger then 6 years consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
 
 
Precautions
Clarinex is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Clarinex.   Clarinex is known to cause a lower degree of drowsiness than most other antihistamines, but caution should still be exhibited when taking this medication as it may still cause drowsiness and a lack of alertness in some patients.  

This medicine will cause harm to an unborn baby. Before taking Clarinex, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Clarinex passes into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or are breast-feeding a baby.  

You should consult a doctor before using this medication if you are allergic to desloratadine or similar medicines, or any of the other ingredients of Clarinex.

Drug Interactions
Speak to your doctor before you take Clarinex if you are on the following medication: Advair Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol), albuterol, aspirin, Cymbalta (duloxetine), levothyroxine, Lexapro (escitalopram), Lipitor (atorvastatin), lisinopril, Lyrica (pregabalin), metformin,Nasonex (mometasone nasal), Nexium (esomeprazole), omeprazole, Plavix (clopidogrel), prednisone, Prevacid (lansoprazole), Protonix (pantoprazole), simvastatin, Singulair (montelukast), or Synthroid (levothyroxine)
 
Adverse/Side Effects
Possible side effects: pharyngitis, dry mouth, headache, dyspepsia, nausea, myalgia, fatigue, somnolence, dysmenorrhea.
 
Other less common possible side effects: upper respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, fever, irritability, coughing, somnolence, brinchitis, otitis media, vomiting, anorexia, pharyngitis, insomnia, rhinorrhea, erythema and nausea, 
 
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat, fever, flu symptoms, seizure (convulsions) or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
 
Other possible side effects include: spontaneous headaches, tachycardia, palpitations, rare cases of hypersensitivity reactions (such as rash, pruritus, urticaria, edema, dyspnea, and anaphylaxis), psychomotor hyperactivity, seizures, and elevated liver enzymes including bilirubin, and very rarely, hepatitis. If you experience any of  the above side effects and they become bothersome speak to a doctor.
 
Overdose
In case of overdose please contact your local emergency room or poison control. In the event of overdose, consider standard measures to remove any unabsorbed drug. 
 
Storage Instructions
Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15°-30°C (59°-86°F). Clarinex is heat sensitive. Avoid exposure at or above 30°C (86°F). Keep away from pets and children
