NASACORT AQ, triamcinolone, acetonideChemical NamesTriamcinolone Ingredients Active Ingredients triamcinolone Non-Active Ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, polysorbate 80, dextrose, benzalkonium chloride, and edetate disodium are contained in this aqueous medium; hydrochloric acid Indications Used to treat allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose caused by seasonal allergies or hay fever. How it works Nasacort AQ is a nasal spray that contains triamcinolone - an adrenocortical steroid. It prevents the release of substances in the body that causes inflammation. Dosage Adults: The recommended starting dose is 220 mcg per day - two sprays in each nostril once daily. This dosage should be adjusted once to the minimum effective dosage, and once symptoms have been controlled, reduced to one spray in each nostril daily. Children: 110 mcg (one spray in each nostril daily) is the recommended dose for children. Do not use Nasacort AQ in a child under 2 years old without the advice of a doctor. Some brands of triamcinolone nasal are not made for use in children. Do not use Nasacort AQ if you are allergic to triamcinolone. Before using Nasacort AQ, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have tuberculosis, asthma, a history of glaucoma or cataracts, any type of infection, or if you have had recent surgery or injury to your nose. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or conceive while on Nasacort. Drug Interactions No drug interactions have been described with nasal triamcinolone. However, consult with your doctor before taking this medication. Adverse/Side effects Common side effects are nasal irritation and itching, increased cough, nausea or vomiting, sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing, nasal burning, bloody nasal discharge, and nasal dryness. Other adverse effects reported with intranasal triamcinolone acetonide include headache, dizziness, and watery eyes. More serious side effects include epistaxis, Candida albicans infection, nasal septal perforation, impaired wound healing, glaucoma, immunosuppression, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis effects, including growth reduction Overdose If you suspect overdose, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
