Ingredients
Active Ingredients: Montelukast

Non-Active Ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and magnesium stearate. The film coating consists of: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, titanium dioxide, red ferric oxide, yellow ferric oxide, and carnauba wax.

Indications
Singulair is used to treat and prevent asthma symptoms.

How It Works
Singulair is used for prevention in chronic treatment of asthma.

Dosage
Tablets (4 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg)

Asthma
For adults and adolescents 15 years of age and older:
Take one 10 mg tablet, once a day.

For pediatric patients 6 to 14 years of age: one 5 mg tablet.

For pediatric patients 2 to 5 years of age:
One 4 mg chewable tablet or one packet of 4 mg oral granules.

For pediatric patients 12 to 23 months of age:
Take one packet of 4-mg oral granules.

Rhinitis
For adults and adolescents 15 years of age and older: one 10-mg tablet.

For pediatric patients 6 to 14 years of age:
The recommended dose is one 5-mg chewable tablet.

For pediatric patients 2 to 5 years of age:
Te recommended doseone 4-mg chewable tablet or one packet of 4-mg oral granules.

Perennial allergic rhinitis
For adults and adolescents 15 years of age and older: one 10-mg tablet.

Precautions
Singulair is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Singulair.

Singulair is not for the reversing of bronchospasm in cases of spontaneous asthma attack.

Patients should considered have appropriate medication for that condition.
Singulair should not be used as a substitute for other inhaled or oral corticosteroids.

People who are sensitive to aspirin or other NSAIDs should not use it while taking Singulair.

Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients less than 12 months of age with asthma have not been established.

Singulair (passes/does not pass/ unknown) into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or are breast-feeding a baby.

Drug Interactions

Before using this Singulair, tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and non-prescription medications, including herbal products, minerals and vitamins you may be taking. Other medications may affect how Singulair works or may cause other unforeseen complications.

Adverse/Side Effects
It is not uncommon for Singulair to cause the following minor side effects: upper respiratory infection, fever, headache, pharyngitis, cough, abdominal pain, diarrhea, inflammation of the inner ear. If these side effects persist or become overly bothersome, contact your doctor or health-care professional.

Infrequent side effects may include: fatigue, trauma, dyspepsia, dental pain gastroenteritis, dizziness, influenza, rash, dermatitis, acute bronchitis, tooth infection, dermatitis, tooth infection, skin infection, cholestic hepatitis, deep hives, edema, palpitations and myopia.

Rare side effects may include: agitation, irregular heart rate, aggression, abnormal dreams, hallucinations, yellowing of eyes and skin, numbness, tingling I hands or feet, easy bruising or bleeding, swelling, seizures, depression and suicidal thoughts

If any of these side effects become bothersome seek medical attention immediately.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. This may not be a complete list of side effects and may be subject to change, consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you are experiencing any worrisome side effects.

Overdose
If you suspect overdose, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
