Consult a doctor before taking Adoxa (doxycycline), which has been shown to depress plasma prothrombin activity, patients who are on anticoagulant therapy may need a reduction of their dosage. Since bacteriostatic drugs may interfere with the bactericidal action of penicillin, it is advisable to avoid giving Tetracyclines in conjunction with penicillin. Antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium, and iron-containing ingredients can impair the absorption of Tetracyclines. Barbiturates, Carbamazepine, and Phenytoin decreases the half-life of Doxycycline. The concurrent use of Tetracycline and Methoxyflurane has been reported to cause kidney damage. If you are using oral contraceptives, Adoxa may make them less effective and you should consider other forms of birth control. These symptoms should go away on their own, but if they persist or become bothersome contact a doctor.
