Contraindications: Nydrazid is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Nydrazid; drug -induced hepatitis; previous isoniazid-associated hepatic injury; people who have had severe adverse reactions to isoniazid such as drug fever, chills, arthritis; and acute liver disease of any etiology.

Chemical Name
Isoniazid

Ingredients
Active Ingredients: isoniazid

Non-Active Ingredients: Anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulose and stearic acid.

Indications
Nydrazid is used to treat forms of tuberculosis in which organisms are susceptible. However, active tuberculosis must be treated with multiple concomitant antituberculosis medications to prevent the emergence of drug resistance. It is also used to treat persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (³ 5 mm) and persons with risk factors for HIV infection whose HIV infection status is unknown; close contacts of persons with newly diagnosed infectious tuberculosis; persons with abnormal chest radiographs that show fibrotic lesions likely to represent old healed tuberculosis; people with medical conditions that are at risk for tuberculosis.

How It Works
Nydrazid blocks the natural enoyl-AcpM substrate and the action of fatty acid synthase. This process inhibits the synthesis of mycolic acid, required for the mycobacterial cell wall.


Dosage
Tablets (100mg, 300 mg)

Adults
Take 5mg/kg up to 300mg daily in a single dose, or 15mg/kg up to 900mg/day, two or three times/week.

Children:
Administer 10-15 mg/kg up to 300 mg daily in a single dose, or 20-40 mg/kg up to 900 mg/day, two or three times/week.

For Preventative Therapy of Tuberculosis
Adults over 30 Kg: 300 mg per day in a single dose.
Infants and Children: 10 mg/kg (up to 300 mg daily) in a single dose. In situations where adherence with daily preventative therapy cannot be assured, 20-30 mg/kg (not to exceed 900 mg) twice weekly

Precautions
Nydrazid is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Nydrazid, drug -induced hepatitis; previous isoniazid-associated hepatic injury; people who have had severe adverse reactions to isoniazid such as drug fever, chills, arthritis; acute liver disease of any etiology.

Speak to a doctor if you have the following conditions: alcohol abuse or daily use of alcohol, chronic liver disease, under the age of 35, concurrent use of chronically used medication, history of isoniazid use, problems with nerves outside the spinal cord, are a woman belonging to minority, pregnant, are an HIV patient.

As there have been cases of isoniazid associated hepatitis, transaminase measurements should be taken periodically, especially patients in the high-risk groups mentioned above.

Stop Nydrazid at the first sign of hypersensitive reaction. Isoniazid should not be administered with food.

This medicine may cause harm to an unborn baby. Before taking Nydrazid, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Nydrazid passes into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby.

You should consult a doctor before using this medication if you are allergic to isoniazid or similar medicines, or any of the other ingredients of Nydrazid .

Drug Interactions
Consult a doctor before taking Nydrazid  if you are taking Acetaminophen, Carbamazepine, Ketoconazole, Phenytoin, Therophylline, Valproate, disulfiram, MAO inhibitors ,Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Moclobemide, Phenelzine, Procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine), phenytoin, SSRI antidepressants (such as fluoxetine, sertraline), theophylline, valproic acid.

Before using this Nydrazid , tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and non-prescription medications, including herbal products, minerals and vitamins you may be taking. Other medications may affect how Nydrazid works or may cause other unforeseen complications.

Adverse/Side Effects
Infrequent side effects include problems with nerve functions outside spinal cord, inflammation of optic nerve, atrophy, memory impairment, psychosis, the presence of excess bilirubin in the blood, yellowing of skin and teeth, hepatitis, decrease in white blood cells filled with microscopic granules, fever , skin eruptions, hyperglycemia, development of male breasts, few platelets in blood, nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, destruction of red blood cells, inflammation of blood vessels, too much acid in the body.

Symptoms of hepatitis include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, malaise, and weakness,

If any of these side effects become bothersome seek medical attention immediately.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. This may not be a complete list of side effects and may be subject to change. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you are experiencing any worrisome side effects.

Overdose
If you suspect overdose, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose include: nausea, vomiting dizziness, slurring of speech, blurring of vision, and visual hallucinations (including bright colors and strange designs are among the early manifestations.

Absorption of drugs from the Gl (gastro-intestinal) tract may be decreased by giving activated charcoal.

Storage Instructions
Store at controlled room temperature 15º-30º C (59º-86º F), away from moisture and light, and out of reach of children and pets.
