How It Works Penicillin are bactericidal agents, which act against penicillin-susceptible microorganisms during the stage of active multiplication. They act by inhibiting biosynthesis of cell-wall mucopeptide. It is not active against the penicillinase-producing bacteria, which include many strains of staphylococci.
