Tequin, gatifloxacinChemical NameGatifloxacin Ingredients Active Ingredients: Gatifloxacin Tablets Non-Active Ingredients: Hypromellose, magnesium stearate, methylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, simethicone, sodium starch glycolate, sorbic acid, and titanium dioxide. Eye drops Non-Actibe Ingredients: Benzalkonium chloride 0.005%. edetate disodium; purified water and sodium chloride. Eye drops: Tequin solution is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, used against the following bacteria: Cornyebacterium propinquum, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae. How It Works Gatifloxacin is an antibiotic of the fourth-generation fluoroquinolone family. It inhibits the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Dosage Tablets (200 mg, 400 mg) Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis: Take 400 mg for 5 days. Acute Sinusitis: Take 400 mg for 10 days Community-acquired Pneumonia: Take 400 mg for 7-14 days. Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections: Take 400 mg for 7-10 days Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections (cystitis): 400 mg or 200 mg Take a Single dose for 3 days Complicated Urinary Tract Infections Take 400 mg for 7-10 days Uncomplicated Urethral Gonorrhea in Men; Endocervical and Rectal Gonorrhea in Women: Take 400 mg, single dose. You should consult a doctor before using this medication if you are allergic to Gatifoxacin or similar medicines, or any of the other ingredients of Tequin. Drug Interactions Consult a doctor before taking Tequin, if you are taking: caffeine, and oral anticoagulant, warfarin and its derivatives, probenecid, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). You may require a reduced dosage or special treatment. Tell your doctor if you are taking the following medication: Cisapride, Erythromycin, antipsychotics, and/or tricyclic antidepressants. Before using this Tequin, tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and nonprescription medications, including herbal products, minerals and vitamins you may be taking. Other medications may affect how Tequin works or may cause other unforeseen complications. Adverse/Side Effects It is common that Tequin causes the following minor side effects: nausea, vaginitis, diarrhea, headache, or dizziness. If these side effects persist or become overly bothersome contact your doctor or health-care professional. Infrequent side effects include: allergic reaction, asthenia, back pain, chest pain, chills, abnormal accumulation of water around the eye, fever, hypertension, palpitation, hyperglycemia, painfull joints, thirst, abnormal dream, agitation, anxiety, confusion, insomnia, nervousness, ticking skin, stinging skin, numbness, somnolence, tremor, vasodilatation, vertigo, laboured breath, pharyngitis, itching, painful or difficult urination, taste perversion, tinitis, renal function (including acute renal failure), acute allergic reaction including anaphylactic reaction and angioneurotic edema, hepatitis, hypotension, increased International Normalized Ratio (INR)/prothrombin time, pancreatitis, severe hyperglycemia (including hyperosmolar nonketotic hyperglycemia), or severe hypoglycemia. Eye Drops Minor common side effects: conjunctival irritation, increased lacrimation, keratitis, and papillary conjunctivitis. Infrequent side effects: swelling around the iris, bleeding underneath the conjunctiva, eyelid edema, headache, red eye, reduced visual acuity and taste disturbance.. If any of these side effects become bothersome seek medical attention immediately. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
