Mentax, butenafineChemical NamesButenafine Ingredients Active Ingredients: butenafine Non-Active Ingredients: purified water USP, propylene glycol dicaprylate, glycerin USP, cetyl alcohol NF, glyceryl monostearate SE, white petrolatum USP, stearic acid NF, polyoxyethylene (23) cetyl ether, benzyl alcohol NF, diethanolamine NF, and sodium benzoate NF Indications Mentax is indicated in the treatment of athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, tinea faciei, and tinea versicolor. How It Works Like the allylamine antifungals, butenafine works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, an enzyme responsible for the creation of sterols needed in fungal cell membranes. Lacking ergosterol, the cell membranes increase in permeability, allowing their contents to leak out. Dosage Available cream formulations: 1% 15g Patients with tinea (pityriasis) versicolor should apply Mentax once daily for two weeks. In the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), Mentax should be applied once daily for 4 weeks. Patients with tinea corporis (ringworm) or tinea cruris (jock itch) should apply Mentax once daily for two weeks. You must clean and dry the affected area as directed, then apply a small amount of the medication on the skin to cover the area and surrounding skin. Cover with a bandage only if directed to do so by your doctor. Wash hands after applying the drug. Use this medication as prescribed for the full treatment time. Do not use large amounts, apply this more often or stop using without your doctor's approval. Stopping this medication too soon may lead to ineffective treatment and the reoccurrence of your infection. Notify your doctor if the condition for which this was prescribed does not improve after 4 weeks or becomes worse.
