Haloperidol is also used for severe behavior problems in hyperactive children when other medications failed. Haldol is a psychiatric medication (antipsychotic-type) that works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain.

How It Works
Haldol has a strong antidopaminergic action, and it is classified as a highly potent neuroleptic. Haloperidol possesses a strong activity against delusions and hallucinations, most likely due to an effective dopaminergic receptor blockage in the mesocortex and the limbic system of the brain. It blocks the dopaminergic action in the nigrostriatal pathways. Haloperidol also has sedative properties and acts against psychomotor agitation through specific action due to the way it affects the limbic system.
