Precautions
Before taking this hormone it is advised that you speak to your doctor about the potential benefits and risks.

Gestanin is specifically designed to be taken during pregnancy, but still carries a small risk of ill effects just like all medications during pregnancy. Gestanin should be discontinued after delivery as it may affect a nursing infant to a small but noticeable degree combined with the knowledge that it is no longer a necessary medication post partum.

Gestanin should not be used if you are hypersensitive to any of its ingredients, or if you have or have a history of thrombophlebitis, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, incomplete abortion, hormone-dependent carcinoma, cerebral apoplexy, liver disease, kidney disease, depression, diabetes, epilepsy, migraines, asthma, or heart disease.

Gestanin may impair ability to drive operate machinery. Sudden withdrawal of allyloestrenol should be avoided as it leads to intermittent breakthrough bleeding; lactation.

Drug Interactions
Consult a doctor before taking Gestanin if you are also taking enzyme-inducing drugs such as carbamazepine, griseofulvin, phenobarbital, phenytoin and rifampicin, as well as ketoconazole and cyclosporine.

Adverse/Side Effects
Some patients complain of side effects including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and indigestion. Patients who experience mild side effects should simply report them to the prescribing physician. While not true in all cases, some side effects can be managed through a dosage reduction of Gestanin.

Serious side effects associated with Gestanin might include allergic reaction, dehydration, severe nausea and vomiting, and watery or bloody diarrhea.
