Altace, ramiprilChemical NameRamipril Ingredients Active Ingredients: ramipril Non-Active Ingredients (tablets): calcium sulphate dihydrate, pregelatinized starch, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium stearyl fumarate. The 2.5 mg tablet contains yellow iron oxide and FD&C yellow #6, the 5 mg tablet contains FD&C yellow #6 and FD&C red #40, and the 10 mg tablet contains FD&C blue #2. Indications Altrace is used to treat hypertension (also known as high blood pressure), How It Works Altrace is an ACE, or angiotensin-converting encyme, inhibitor. It works by reducing the amount of angiotensin II present in blood plasma. Angiotensin is responsible for stimulating vascular constriction and raising blood pressure and its absence causes blood vessels to relax resulting both in reduced blood pressure and a reduced strain on the vascular system. Dosage Tablets (1.5 mg, 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg) Capsules (1.5 mg, 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg) The most common treatment using this drug consists of a dosage of 2.5 mg once per day, then 5 mg once a day for three weeks and finally a target dosage of 10 mg a day in order to maintain blood pressure at the target level. In cases where there are complicating circumstances, the stating dose is typically 1.5 mg. Precautions Altrace is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Altrace. Speak to a doctor if you have the following conditions: Kidney or liver disease, diabetes, congestive heart failure or heart disease, or connective tissue diseases like Marfan syngrom, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or scleroderma.
