Avalide, irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazideChemical Name Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Ingredients Active Ingredients: Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Non-Active Ingredients:croscarmellose sodium, ferric oxide re and ferric oxide yellow, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, silicon dioxide. Indications Avalide is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) How It Works Avalide lowers blood pressure by bocking angiotensin II, which normally arrows the blood vessels. Irbesartan allows the blood vessels to rekelax. Hydrochlorothiazide works by making kidney pass more water and salt. Dosage Tablets (150 mg 12.5 mg, 300 mg 12.5 mg, irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide) The usual starting dose is 150/12.5 mg once daily. Drug Interactions Consult a doctor before taking Avalide if you are taking lithium, potassium supplements, potassium sparing medicines, other diuretics, warfarin, digoxin, antidiabetic drugs, alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics, pressor amines, skeletal muscle relaxqnts, cholestyramine and cloestipol resins, calcium, calcium sparing drugs, other blood pressure medicines, steroids or anti-inflammatory medicines used in arthritis. Also includes Cholestyramine and Colestipol Resins, Antidiabetic Drugs (oral agents and insulin), Alcohol, Barbiturates, or Narcotics, Hydrochlorothiazide, Corticosteroids, ACTH, Skeletal Muscle Relaxants, Nondepolarizing Before using this Avalide , tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and non-prescription medications, including herbal products, minerals and vitamins you may be taking. Other medications may affect how Avalide works or may cause other unforeseen complications. Adverse/Side Effects It is common that Avalide causes the following minor side effects: headache, dizziness, fatigue, muscle pain. If these side effects persist or become overly bothersome, contact your doctor or health-care professional. Infrequent side effects may include muscle inflammation, rapid breakdown of skeletal muscles, muscle wasting disease, kidney failure, dark brown urine, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting,, muscle tenderness weakness, general weakness, constipation, gastroenteritis, flatulence, abdominal distention, visual disturbances, sleep disturbance, numbness, somnolence, vertigo, emotional disturbance, depression, paresthesia, tremor, irregular heart beat, heart attack, cerebrovascular accident, upper respiratory infection, respiratory nosebleed, visual defect of color.
