How It Works Irbesartan is an angiotensin-II receptor antagonist (an angiotensin receptor blocker, or ARB) that blocks the hormone angiotensin. This causes blood vessels to relax and widen, which can lower blood pressure or alleviate kidney problems caused by blood vessel constriction.
