Lozol, indapamideChemical NameIndapamide Ingredients Active Ingredients: Indapamide Non-Active Ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, coloring agent, corn starch, pregelatinized starch, hypromellose, lactose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, and talc. Indications Lozol is used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure. How It Works Lozol blocks the slow component of delayed rectifier potassium current (IKs) without altering the rapid component (IKr) or the inward rectifier current. Dosage Tablets (1.5 mg, 2.5 mg) Hypertension: The starting dose for adults taking indapamide for hypertension is 1.25mg to be taken as a single daily dose in the morning. If the response to 1.25mg is not satisfactory after four weeks, the daily dose may be increased to 2.5mg taken once daily. Congestive Heart Failure: The starting dose for adults taking indapamide for hypertension is 2.5mg to be taken as a single daily dose in the morning. If the response to 2.5mg is not satisfactory after four weeks, the daily dose may be increased to 5mg taken once daily. Infrequent side effects include excessive loss of sodium (particularly of concern in elderly patients), increased cholesterol (this effect tends to diminish with continued use), increased uric acid concentrations in the blood, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, blurred vision, tingling of the extremities, nervousness, impotence, rash, photosensitivity (skin rashes due to sunlight), fatigue, irritability, and agitation. If any of these side effects become bothersome seek medical attention immediately. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
