Reserpine, reserpineChemical NameReserpine Ingredients Active Ingredients: reserpine Non-Active Ingredients: Indications Reserpine is used to treat high blood pressure, also called hypertension. How It Works The type of drug this is an anti hypertensive. It works by reducing the amount of catecholamine in organs like the brain. Catecholamines are hormones released by the adrenal gland. Reducing catecholamine levels results in a depression of the sympathetic nervous system and, by extension, a reduction in heart rate and blood pressure. It also has a sedative effect and is sometimes used as an antipsychotic. Dosage Tablets (0.25 mg) The recommended initial dose of this medication is 0.5 mg to be taken daily for the first 1 to 2 weeks. Afterwards, the dose can be reduced to 0.1 to 0.25 mg per day to sustain blood pressure levels. Precautions Reserpine is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Reserpine. Speak to a doctor if you have the following conditions: depression, ulcerative colitis, renal insufficiency, peptic ulcers and gallstones. This medicine may cause harm to an unborn baby.
