Aldara, imiquimodChemical NameImiquimod Ingredients Active Ingredients: Imiquimod Non-Active Ingredients: isostearic acid, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, white petrolatum, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, glycerin, xanthan gum, purified water, benzyl alcohol, methylparaben, and propylparaben. Indications Aldara is used to treat certain types of growths on the skin. These are precancerous growths (actinic keratoses), a certain type of skin cancer (superficial basal cell carcinoma) and warts on the outside of the genitals/anus. How It Works The exact mechanism of action of Aldara Cream is unknown. Dosage Cream (5% 0,25gm, 5%/12.5mg) Apply the cream twice a week for 16 weeks on the defined treatment area on the face or the scalp, but not at the same time. This should not be done on consecutive days, but spread out over a longer period. Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma Applied five times per week for a full six weeks to a biopsy-confirmed superficial basal cell carcinoma. An example of a five-times per week application schedule is to apply Aldara Cream, once per day, Monday through Friday. Aldara Cream should be applied prior to normal sleeping hours and left on the skin for approximately eight hours. External Genital Warts Aldara Cream should be applied three times per week to external genital/perianal warts. Aldara Cream treatment should continue until there is total clearance of the genital/perianal warts or for a maximum of 16 weeks. Adverse/Side Effects It is common that Aldara causes the following minor side effects: redness, swelling, itching, burning, pain/tenderness, thickening/hardening of the skin, peeling, flaking, scabbing, crusting, or leaking a clear fluid.
