Nolvadex, tamoxifenChemical NameTamoxifen Ingredients Active Ingredients: tamoxifen Non-Active Ingredients: carboxymethylcellulose calcium, magnesium stearate, mannitol and starch. Indications Nolvadex is used to treat metastatic breast cancer. How It Works Nolvadex is an estrogen receptor antagonist. As some cancer cells are dependent upon estrogen for their growth, Nolvadex inhibits the binding of estrogen to the receptor, thereby inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. Dosage Tablets (10 mg, 20 mg) The recommended initial dose of Nolvadex is 20 mg, with some doses set at 40 mg. A physician should prescribe the exact dosage. If dosage is higher than 20 mg, the doses should be administered in divided doses in the morning and the evening. Precautions Nolvadex is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Nolvadex. Some breast cancer patients have experienced hypercalcemia as a result of receiving estrogen therapy. Should it occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately.
