The tablets are film coated, which provides color differentiation. Indications Metaglip is used with proper diet and exercise to treat type II diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. How It Works Metaglip combines Glipizide and Metformin hydrochloride, two antihyperglycemic agents. Glizipide stimulates the production of insulin in the pancreas. And Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose and improves insulin sensitivity. Dosage Tablets (2.5mg/250mg, Glipizide/Metformin) Dosage of Metaglip must be individualized on the basis of both effectiveness and tolerance. Never exceed 20 mg glipizide/2000 mg Metformin. Metaglip should be given with meals and should be initiated at a low dose For patients with inadequate glycemic control on diet and exercise: The recommended starting dose of Metaglip is 2.5 mg/250 mg once a day with a meal. For patients whose FPG is 280 mg/dL to 320 mg/dL a starting dose of Metaglip 2.5 mg/500 mg twice daily should be considered. For patients with inadequate Glycemic Control on Sulfonylurea and/or Metformin: The recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg/500 mg or 5 mg/500 mg twice daily with morning and evening meals. The daily dose should not be increased in increments of more than 5 mg/500 mg.
