Alphagan, brimonidine tartrateChemical NamesActive Ingredients: brimonidine tartrate Non-Active Ingredients: sodium carboxymethylcellulose; sodium borate; boric acid; sodium chloride; potassium chloride; calcium chloride; magnesium chloride; Purite® 0.005% (0.05mg/mL) as a preservative; purified water; with hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide to adjust pH. Indications Alphagan P is indicated for lowering intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. How It Works Alphagan P is an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing the production of aqueous humor – a fluid that fills part of the eyeball. Dosage Available concentrations of active ingredient: 0.10%, 0.15%, 2%. Apply one drop of Alphagan P every 8 hours in the affected eye. If more than one topical ophthalmic product is being used, the products should be administered at least 5 minutes apart. Adverse/Side Effects Stop using immediately and call doctor if the following allergic reactions occur: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of your face, tongue, lips or throat. Call your doctor if you have the following symptoms: slow or uneven heartbeat, pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, shallow breathing, feeling faint, severe swelling, redness, discomfort around eyes, eyes pain, increased watering eyes, numbness of tingly feeling in hands, eye pain. Less serious side effects include: burning, stinging or itching in your eyes, feeling like something is in eyes, blurred vision, redness of eye or eyelid, mildly swollen or puffy eyes, sensitivity to light, nausea, upset stomach, headache, dizziness, muscle pain, tiredness, sleep problems, dry nose, strange taste in mouth. Overdose An overdose of Alphagan P is unlikely to cause any serious side effects. In case of overdose or swallowing, call your local emergency hospital number or poison control number. Storage Instructions Store Alphagan P at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 20 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
