FML, fluorometholoneChemical NameFluorometholone Ingredients Active Ingredients: Fluorometholone Non-Active Ingredients: Edetate disodium; polysorbate 80; polyvinyl alcohol 1.4%; purified water; sodium chloride; sodium phosphate, dibasic; sodium phosphate, monobasic; and sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH. Indications FML, Flarex is indicated for the treatment of eye inflammation, specifically of cornea and anterior segment of the globe. How It Works Fluorometholone is a class of steroid hormones that are produced in the adrenal cortex Dosage Eye drops (0.1% 5ml) Tilt your head back, lower eyelid down with your index finger, squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pouch Close the eye gently to spread the drops. Your vision may blur for a few minutes. Use your doses at regular intervals. Do not use more often than directed. Also, do not stop using this medicine unless your health care professional tells you to do so. Precautions FML, Flarex is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in FML, Flarex and most viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, including epithelial, herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, and varicella, and also in mycobacterial infection of the eye and fungal diseases of ocular structures. Speak to a doctor if you have the following conditions: eye infections, recent eye surgery, cataracts, glaucoma (open-angle type), severe nearsightedness (myopia), or diabetes. Please wait at least 15 minutes after each dose of the eye drop before wearing the lenses again. Long-term use of corticosteroids may result in glaucoma and damage to the optic nerve even defects in the visual fields. Long-term corticosteroid use has been known to cause corneal and scleral thinning. If you use this drug for 10 days or longer there might be an increase in intraocular pressure. This should be monitored. Fungal infections can develop with corticortiol steroid use. Safety and effectiveness in infants below the age of two years have not been established. Use of steroids may exacerbate viral infections of the eye, including herpes simplex. Do not use this product if it becomes contaminated (for example, drops turn a dark color). This medicine may cause harm to an unborn baby. Before taking FML, Flarex, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. FML, Flarex passes into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby. You should consult a doctor before using this medication if you are allergic to Fluorometholone or similar medicines, or any of the other ingredients of FML, Flarex. Drug Interactions Consult a doctor before taking FML, Flarex, if you are taking: ocular (ketorolac ophthalmic), Acular LS (ketorolac ophthalmic), Acular PF (ketorolac ophthalmic), Acuvail (ketorolac ophthalmic), Bromfenac ophthalmic, Diclofenac ophthalmic, Flurbiprofen ophthalmic, Ketorolac ophthalmic, Nepafenac ophthalmic, Nevanac (nepafenac ophthalmic), Ocufen (flurbiprofen ophthalmic), Profenal (suprofen ophthalmic), Suprofen ophthalmic, Voltaren Ophthalmic (diclofenac ophthalmic, or Xibrom (bromfenac ophthalmic). Before using this FML, Flarex tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and nonprescription medications, including herbal products, minerals and vitamins you may be taking. Other medications may affect how FML, Flarex works or may cause other unforeseen complications. Adverse/Side Effects It is common that FML, Flarex causes the following minor side effects: stinging/burning of the eyes. If these side effects persist or become overly bothersome contact your doctor or health-care professional. Infrequent side effects: headache, dizziness, elevation of intraocular pressure, infrequent optic nerve damage, eye cloudiness, cataract, fluid pressure inside the eyes rises because of slowed fluid drainage from the eye, inflammation of the cornea, conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, dilation of pupil, blood flow to conjunctiva, and ocular infection (bacterial, fungal and viral). If any of these side effects become bothersome seek medical attention immediately. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
