Iopidine, apraclonidineChemical NamesApraclonidine Ingredients Active Ingredients: apraclonidine Non-Active Ingredients: sodium chloride, sodium acetate, sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid (pH 4.4-7.8) and purified water. Indications Iopidine is indicated in the treatment of glaucoma and intraocular pressure buildup. It is also commonly used as a postoperative medicine in the prevention of complications from laser eye surgery. How It Works Apraclonidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist. It has vasodilatory effects – alpha-2 adrenergic agonists are also applied (in different formats) to treat high blood pressure – that when applied to the eye via a dropper, it can dilate the eye and alleviate pressure buildup. Dosage Available solution concentrations: 2ml/1% Apply eye drops to the affected eye(s) as follows: Wash hands first. To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye. Shake the eye drops well before using. Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place dropper directly over eye and administer 2 drops. Look downward and gently close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and apply gentle pressure. This will prevent the medication from draining away from the eye. Try not to blink and do not rub the eye. Do not rinse the dropper. Wash hands after use. It is applied 3 times per day. If you are using another kind of eye drop, wait at least five minutes before applying other medications. Consult a doctor before taking Iopidine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, or if you have a history of other eye problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, or allergies.
