Indications Tobrex is used to treat external eye infections. It is a topical antibiotic that can be used on a variety of pathogens. How It Works Tobrex works like any other antibiotic, targeting a weakness in the bacteria causing the problem. It is effective against a variety of bacteria including strep and staph infections. Dosage When using Tobrex be sure to have clean hands and remove your contact lenses. Tilt your head back and use a finger to pull the lower eyelid down forming a pocket. Then apply a dab of the ointment in the lower eyelid. Close your eye and look downward. You should not have to rub your eye, in most cases discomfort will be minimal.
