Trusopt, dorzolamide

Chemical Names
Dorzolamide

Ingredients
Active Ingredients: Dorzolamide
Non-Active Ingredients: hydroxyethyl cellulose, mannitol, sodium citrate dihydrate, sodium hydroxide (to adjust pH) and water for injection. Benzalkonium chloride 0.0075% is added as a preservative.

Indications
Trusopt is indicated in the treatment of high pressure inside the eye, (ocular hypertension) and open-angle glaucoma.

How It Works
Dorzolamide reduces the amount of fluid in the eye, which decreases pressure inside the eye.

Dosage
Always wash your hands before applying eye drops.
The recommended dosage is one drop of Trusopt Ophthalmic Solution in the affected eye three times a day.
To apply tilt your head back slightly and pull down on the lower eyelid. Hold the dropper above the eye with the dropper tip down. Look up and away from the dropper. Squeeze out a drop and close your eye. Gently press your finger to the inside corner of the eye for about a minute to keep the liquid from draining into your tear duct.

Precautions
Consult a doctor before taking Trusopt if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breast feeding as it is not known whether this medication passes into breast milk. Before using Dorzolamide, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to these drugs; or to any of the other ingredients (benzalkonium chloride) that may be found in Trusopt; or if you have any other allergies. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, kidney stones, liver disease. If you develop an eye infection, eye injury, or have eye surgery, check with your doctor about whether you should continue to use your current bottle of Dorzolamide. You may be advised to start using a new bottle or to stop treatment altogether. Your vision may be temporarily blurred or unstable after applying this drug. Do not drive, use machinery, or do activities that requires clear vision until you are sure you can see properly. Do not use this medication while wearing contact lenses. This medication can be absorbed by contact lenses. You should wait at least 15 minutes after using Trusopt drops before putting your contact lenses back in. Do not allow the dropper to become contaminated by touching household surfaces, or eyes and hands. If the dropper becomes contaminated it could cause an infection in your eye, which can lead to vision loss or serious eye damage. Do not use any other eye medication unless your doctor has prescribed it for you. If you use another eye medication, use it at least 10 minutes before or after using Dorzolamide ophthalmic. Do not use the medications at the same time.
