It can inhibit both types (1 and 2) of HIV reverse transcriptase and also the reverse transcriptase of hepatitis B. Adverse/Side Effects It is common that Epivir causes the following minor side effects: Headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, trouble sleeping, mental/mood changes (such as depression), tingling/numbness of hands or feet, muscle weakness, stomach/back pain with nausea and pancreatitis. If these side effects persist or become overly bothersome contact your doctor or health-care professional. Infrequent side effects: mental/mood changes, depression, tingling/numbness of hands or feet, muscle weakness, stomach/back pain, nausea, pancreatitis. Rare side effects: Changes in body fat (such as increased fat in the upper back and stomach areas, decreased fat in the arms and leg. Signs of anemia include easy bleeding, bruising, and pale blue skin. If any of these side effects become bothersome seek medical attention immediately. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
