Chemical Name
Mycophenolate

Ingredients
Active Ingredients: mycophenolate

Non-Active Ingredients: Colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, lactose anhydrous, magnesium stearate, povidone (K-30)), as well as starch. The coating of the tablets contains hypromellose phthalate, titanium dioxide, yellow iron oxide and indigotine or red iron oxide.

Indications
Myfortic is used to prevent organ rejection after transplant surgery. It is usually administered in conjunction with cyclosporine and corticosteroids, but this combination should be confirmed by a doctor.

How It Works
This drug this is an immunosuppressant. It works by inhabiting inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase in the body, which in turn inhibits the production of guanosine nucleotides and ultimately limits that proliferation of T- and B-lymphocytes.

Dosage
Tablets (180 mg, 360 mg)
Capsules (540  mg)
The recommended dose of Myfortic is 720 mg twice daily for a total of 1440 mg per day, It should be taken on an empty stomach one to two hours before eating.

Precautions
Myfortic is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Myfortic.

Speak to a doctor if you have the following conditions: a history of cancer, liver disease, stomach or intestinal problems, or are over the age of 65.

This medicine may cause harm to an unborn baby. Before taking Myfortic, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Myfortic may pass into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or are breast-feeding a baby.

Drug Interactions
Consult a doctor before taking Myfortic if you are taking antacids, alcyclovir or ganciclovir, azathioprine or mycophenolate mofetil, or choloestyramine. The use of live vaccines should be avoided and it should be noted that this drug can reduce the effectiveness of other types of vaccines.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
