How It Works Asacol is an anti-inflammatory drug that works by relieving inflammation in the digestive tract. It is believed that Mesalamine, the active ingredient in Asacol, can act as an antioxidant that captures free radicals, thereby eliminating the potentially damaging effects that occur due to byproducts of metabolism. Dosage Tablets (400mg) The recommended initial dose of Asacol is generally a 400mg dosage that should be ingested four times daily for a period of six weeks to treat moderately active ulcerative colitis.
