Imitrex, sumatriptanChemical NameSumatriptan Ingredients Active Ingredients: sumatriptan Non-Active Ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, dibasic calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and sodium bicarbonate. Indications Imitrex is used to treat migraine headaches in patients who do, or do not, experience aura when they have a migraine. How It Works Imitrex is a triptan sulfa drug. Very similar to serotonin, it acts against certain receptors that cause pain, and also reduces vascular inflammation. Dosage Tablets (15 mg, 50 mg, 100mg) Injection (6 mg 0.5 ml) Nasal spray (20 mg 20%, 10mdi) The recommended initial dose of Imitrex is 25 mg in tablet form. If symptoms are more severe, increase dosages to 50 or 100 mg. In some cases, little difference has been experienced between the dosages of 50 or 100 mg. Do not exceed 200 mg per day. Precautions Imitrex is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Imitrex. Speak to a doctor if you have the following conditions: coronary artery disease. Patients who have risk factors associated with coronary artery disease should undergo frequent monitoring by a physician.
