How It Works Although methocarbamol has yet to be clearly defined, it is believed that its action may be related to its sedative properties. It does not appear to relax tense muscles directly. Dosage Tablets (500mg) Initial Dosage: For adults, the initial dosage is three 500mg tablets four times each day. Maintenance: For maintenance, take two tablets four times each day. Precautions Robaxin is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Robaxin. It is unknown whether this medication will cause harm to an unborn baby. Before taking Robaxin, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Robaxin may pass into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or are breast-feeding a baby. Do not take Robaxin in combination with CNS depressants, or alcohol. Drug Interactions Consult a doctor before taking Robaxin if you are taking: Diphenhydramine, Diazepam, Codeine, Amitriptyline, Phenothiazines, Carbamazepine, Chlorpromazine, or Tricyclic anti-depressants, Antihistamines, Anti-anxiety drugs, Anti-seizure drugs, sedatives like sleeping pills, narcotic pain relievers, psychiatric medicines and tranquilizers. Before using this Robaxin, tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription and non-prescription medications, including herbal products, minerals and vitamins you may be taking. Other medications may affect how Robaxin works or may cause other unforeseen complications. Adverse/Side Effects It is not uncommon for Robaxin to cause the following minor side effects: anaphylactic reaction, angioneurotic edema, fever, headache, dyspepsia, hypotension, hypersensitivity reactions, and jaundice. If these side effects persist or become overly bothersome, contact your doctor or health-care professional. Infrequent side effects may include amnesia, confusion, lightheadedness, loss of energy, inability to sleep, loss of coordination, blurred vision, nasal congestion, rash, and vertigo.
