Zanaflex, tizanidineChemical NameTizanidine Ingredients Active Ingredients: tizanidine hydrochloride Non-Active Ingredients: Silicon dioxide colloidal, stearic acid, microcrystalline cellulose and anhydrous lactose. Indications Zanaflex is used to treat spasticity and to reduce muscle tone. Common applications include MS patients and patients with spinal injury. How It Works While Zanaflex has no specific effect on skeletal muscles it may help increase mobility and ease pain in people affected by MS or spine injury. By blocking certain nerve signals to the brain via a system called alpha adrenergic agonis, Zanaflex is able to reduce unwanted spasms in users. The result is short-term relief from some pain reduction of spasticity. Dosage Zanaflex is supplied as two, four, and six mg capsules or two and four mg tablets. Take as directed by your physician, but a normal dose is generally 8 mg. This dose takes one to two hours to take affect and lasts for six to eight hours. Do not exceed three doses (36 mg) per day. Food will affect how your body absorbs the drug. Ask your physician how best to take Zanaflex. Precautions Zanaflex is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Zanaflex.
