Iodine, potassium iodideChemical NamePotassium Iodide Ingredients Active Ingredients: 50µg of iodine. Non-Active Ingredients: Powdered Kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera). Also contains microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinised potato starch, maize starch, soya polysaccharide and hydrogenated cottonseed oil. Indications Iodine is used as a preventative measure to thwart the effects of radiation poisoning when the patient has, or may be exposed to higher-than-safe levels of radiation. How It Works Iodine protects the thyroid gland, which is effected by radiation. Prolonged exposure to dangerous levels of radiation can cause severe illness, including cancer. Iodine-131 is an aspect of nuclear fallout, and poses the greatest risk to the thyroid gland. When taking iodine tablets, harmful iodine will be excreted from the thyroid gland, thus lessening the effects of exposure to radiation. Dosage Tablets (50µg) Adults: 1 tablet 2-3 times daily before food. Do not take before retiring. Children: This product is not recommended for children. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
