Chemical Names

Ingredients
Active Ingredients: conjugated estrogen, medroxyprogensterone
Non-Active Ingredients: calcium phosphate tribasic, calcium sulfate, carnauba wax, cellulose, glyceryl monooleate, lactose, magnesium stearate, methylcellulose, pharmaceutical glaze, polyethylene glycol, sucrose, povidone, titanium dioxide, FD&C Blue No. 2, and black iron oxide.

Indications
Prempro is indicated in the treatment of hot flashes, vaginal dryness, burning, irritation, moderate or severe vasomotor symptoms, vulvar and vaginal atrophy due to Menopause, and in the prevention of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis.

How It Works
Prempro is an estrogen supplement that increases the levels of estrogen in the bodies of post menopausal women. Prempro is to be taken by women who have not had their uterus removed.

Dosage
Oral Tables (estrogen/medroxyprogensterone, 0.625 mg/ 2.5 mg).

Initial dosage: Women should start dosage by taking one 0.625 mg/ 2.5 mg tablet daily. Dosage adjustment may be required based on individual response.

Precautions
Consult a doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Prempro or if you have any other allergies to estrogen supplements or other medications. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Prempro if you have: unusual vaginal bleeding, certain types of cancer, a history of blood clots, a history of stroke or heart attack, or liver disease. Always tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially: history of blood clots, breast lumps/cancer, asthma, migraine headaches, diabetes, seizures, heart disease, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, kidney disease, underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), abnormal calcium level in the blood, a certain hormone problem (hypoparathyroidism), mental/mood disorders, yellowing eyes/skin (jaundice) during pregnancy or with past estrogen use, certain blood disorder (porphyria), uterus problems (uterine fibroids, endometriosis), high cholesterol/fat levels, gallbladder disease, obesity or lupus.
This drug may make you lightheaded or dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do preform activities that require alertness until you know you can do said activities safely. Limit alcoholic consumption. If you are nearsighted or wear contact lenses, you may develop vision problems or trouble wearing your contact lenses. Consult your eye doctor if these problems occur. Avoid tanning booths, prolonged sun exposure, and sunlamps as a darkening of the skin is possible. Do not smoke while taking this medication - it may further increase your risk of blood clots, high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attacks, more so in women older than 35. Notify you doctor prior to any surgery, or if you will be confined to a small space for a long time (ie. plane flights) as this creates an increased risk of blood clots. Do not use Prempro during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, discontinue use immediately and tell your doctor. Prempro will pass into breast milk. It may reduce the quality and amount of breast milk. Breastfeeding while on Prempro is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Drug Interactions
Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Consult a doctor before taking Prempro if you are taking anastrozole, exemestane as they are not recommended in tandem.

Adverse/Side Effects
Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, stomach upset, bloating, irritability, changes in sleep patterns, nausea, weight changes, increased/decreased interest in sex, change in vaginal discharge, or breast tenderness may occur. If any of these persist or worsen, tell your doctor promptly. Many people do not have serious side effects from taking this medication. If any of these more serious side effects occur, consult a doctor immediately: mental/mood changes (depression, memory loss), breast lumps, nipple discharge, stomach/abdominal pain, worsening of seizures, unusual swelling, unusual vaginal bleeding (spotting, breakthrough bleeding, prolonged/returning bleeding), yellowing eyes/skin, signs of worsening diabetes control (increased thirst and urination).
This medication rarely causes very serious problems but possible problems are: heart attacks, stroke, and blood clots. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following: chest/jaw/left arm pain, sudden severe headache, weakness on one side of the body, confusion, slurred speech, sudden vision changes (e.g., double vision, loss of vision), pain/swelling/weakness of the arms/legs, trouble breathing, coughing up blood, sudden dizziness/fainting. A very serious allergic reaction to Prempro is rare. If you notice an allergic reaction such as a rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing contact a doctor. If you notice any other side effects contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include severe nausea/vomiting, and unusual vaginal bleeding. If you suspect overdose, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Storage Instructions
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and light, and out of reach of children and pets.
