Artane, trihexyphenidylChemical NameTrihexyphenidyl Ingredients Active Ingredients: trihexyphenidyl Non-Active Ingredients: corn starch, dibasic calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate and pregelatinized starch. Indications Artane is used to treat multiple forms of Parkinsonism. How It Works The type of drug this is an Anticholinergic. Anticholinergics are useful in treating involuntary muscle spasms that are related to Parkinsons disease and the drugs used to treat it. Trihexyphenidyl , the active ingredient in Artane works by blocking a particular substance called acetylcholine in the brain. The result is improved ability to walk, move and salivate. Dosage Tablets (2 mg) As with other medications it is recommended to start with low doses and work your way up to a dose that works for you gradually. A typical starting dose is one 2 mg tablet 3-4 times a day. If using the liquid form of Artane be sure to measure it with a pharmacy supplied device, as household devices may not be accurate. Do not take this medication with antacids or diuretics. Precautions Artane is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Artane, Narrow angle glaucoma, liver or kidney disease, or those who work I hot environments.
