Requip, ropiniroleChemical NameRopinirole Ingredients Active Ingredients: ropinirole Non-Active Ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, hydrous lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and one or more of the following: carmine, FD&C Blue No. 2 aluminum lake, FD&C Yellow No. 6 aluminum lake, hypromellose, iron oxides, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, titanium dioxide. Indications Requip is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s idiopathic disease. It can also be used to treat Restless Legs Syndrome. How It Works The type of drug this is dopamine agonist. One of the root symptoms of Parkinson’s disease is a low dopamine level in the brain. This drug mimics the effects of dopamine and thus alleviates symptoms Parkinson’s. Dosage Tablets (0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 2 mg) In the case of Parkinson’s disease the recommended initial dose of Requip is typically 0.25 mg to be taken 3 times per day. After the 4th week, the dosage can then be raised every week by 1.5 mg per day to 3 mg per day until the dosage reaches 9 mg per day. Thereafter the dosage can be raised ever week by in increments of 3 mg a day up to a total maximum dose of 24 mg per day. In all cases the dosage should be divided into three separate doses to be taken a different times during the day. For Restless Legs Syndrome, the starting dose is 0.25 mg to be taken once per day. After two days the dose can be raised to 0.5 mg per day and up to 1 mg per day at the end of a week. Precautions Requip is contraindicated in people who have hypersensitivity to ingredients in Requip, or if your daily activities will become dangerous if you are not completely awake and alert. Speak to a doctor if you have the following conditions: high or low blood pressure, heart disease, mental illness, compulsive behavior, kidney disease, liver disease or if you smoke. This unknown if this medicine can cause harm to an unborn baby. Before taking Requip, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Requip may pass into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant or are breast-feeding a baby.
