Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. The most common symptom of this disorder is the impairment of motor skills, especially muscle rigidity, tremors, postural abnormalities, gait abnormalities and a slowing and possible loss of physical movement. The symptoms range from decreased stimulation of the motor cortex by the basal ganglia this is caused by the lack of formation and action of dopamine which is produced in the dopaminergic neurons of the midbrain. Secondary symptoms may lead to high level cognitive dysfunction and some speech and language problems.
While there are some conditions and medications that can cause Parkinson’s-like symptoms, most people with Parkinson’s disease have the idiopathic form, having no known specific cause. For them, there is no known cure – they must buy Parkinson’s disease medications such as Stalevo and Sinemet to manage their symptoms and regain some control over their bodies and their lives.
