It is indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteriod-responsive dermatoses. How It Works Fluocinolone gel, ointment and cream are potent topical (applied on the skin) steroids. They reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and swelling. Synalar-N cream is mix of Fluocinolone and and antibiotic (Neomycin). This cream is used to treat inflammed areas of the skin when there is a risk of infection, or if there already is a bacterial infection. Dosage Synalar Gel (0.025% 15gm), fluocinolone acetonide Synalar Skin Cream (0.025% 20gm), fluocinolone acetonide Synalar-N Skin Cream (0.025% 0.5% 20gm), fluocinolone and neomycin sulp Synalar Ointment (0.025% 15gm), fluocinolone acetonide For each of these products a small dab of medication should be gently rubbed into the skin. It should be applied 2 to 4 times per day, and should not be covered by a bandage unless your doctor indicates otherwise. Precautions Fluocinolone topical should not be used for a skin conditions your doctor has not recommended it for. Absorption of topical corticosteroids may produce reversible hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, as well as manifestations of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria in some patients. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Fluocinolone, or any of the other inactive ingredients. Before using Fluocinolone topical, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, if you will be applying it to open skin or if you have a skin infection. Make sure to tell your doctor your medical history especially if you have diabetes. Topical steroids absorbed through the skin may increase the glucose levels, in turn requiring an adjustment in insulin. Do not cover treated areas of the skin with a bandage unless your doctor has recommended you to. Do not treat a baby unless a doctor has examined the child and recommended treatment with Fluocinolone. If you are treating the diaper area of a baby, do not use a tight-fitting diaper. Covering the treated skin are can increase the amount of medicine your skin absorbs, which may cause unwanted side effects. A plastic film covering (plastic wrap or a shower cap) is sometimes used when treating psoriasis. Follow your doctor's instructions. Always wash your hands before and after using fluocinolone topical. Do not use this medication over a large area of skin. Topical steroids can be absorbed through the skin, which may cause side effects throughout the body. Steroid absorption in children can cause unwanted side effects, such as a delay in a child's growth. Talk with your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate if they are using this medication over a long period of time. Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve, or if you develop signs of a skin infection. This medicine may cause harm to an unborn baby and has been known to cause birth defects. Before taking Synalar, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Synalar passes into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby. Drug Interactions Consult a doctor before using Synalar cream, gel or ointment, if you are taking any other steroidal medications, either orally intravenously or topically. It is unlikely that Synalar with interact with other medications as it is a topical agent, however check the labels on all your medicines (cough-and-cold products, diet aids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) because they may contain ingredients that could negatively interact with steroids.
