How It Works Niaspan reduces cholesterol by inhibiting the breakdown of fat in the adipose tissue. Dosage Tablets (375 mg, EU 500 mg, 500 mg) Niaspan should be taken in incremental dosages, with lower doses in the first four weeks, followed by higher doses in the ensuing treatment time. Most dosages start at 500 mg per day, with the medication to be administered before bed. A doctor will prescribe the correct dosages for the incremental elevations.
